Full time
Scimita Ventures is an agile technology development and commercialisation business that deploys 'cutting edge science' to produce 'leading edge innovation'. Founded in 2017, Scimita is where research meets commercialisation, where academia meets creativity, a melting pot of bright minds turning ideas into reality/products.
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Researcher to join our dynamic team and make critical contributions to our scale-up and innovation projects. The role will involve navigating the complexities of R&D within commercially driven projects, balancing the need for thorough scientific or engineering-based approaches and maximising efficiency.
The successful candidate will initially contribute their time to a project which focuses on upscaling a novel technology for recycling lithium-ion batteries. As a result, a strong chemistry or chemical engineering background would be of great benefit.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Contribute your mature professional knowledge into our R&D projects, drawing upon advanced techniques and methods learned during your research-based degree and/or previous professional employment.
Coordinate difficult assignments for which defined procedures, policies, and processes may not exist.
Make original contributions and apply new professional approaches or techniques to the design, development, and execution of our products and services.
Perform qualitative and quantitative research including collecting, organising, interpreting, and analysing data.
Lead the design of experiments, including identifying necessary resources and outputs.
Champion Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), with focus on improving and maintaining our processes and practices.
Conduct hands-on experiments in a structured manner while creating relevant documentation such as standard operating procedures and laboratory notes.
Present data or information from research and experiments to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Generate high quality written reports and summaries for external clients and publication, as well as other relevant documentation alongside the research performed.
Work collaboratively in project teams with diverse experience using our Agile project delivery framework.
Serve as a mentor and coach to junior team members, providing them with the guidance, support, and resources needed to achieve their professional best.
The ideal candidate for this job will be/have:
A research-based degree (Honours, Masters, PhD) in chemistry, chemical engineering, or another relevant discipline.
Applied experience translating technology from the laboratory to pilot-scale and beyond is advantageous.
A background in solid/gas/liquid materials processing would be preferred, but is not essential.
An understanding of the chemistry that may be involved in recycling lithium-ion batteries and can apply this to develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems.
Demonstrated leadership abilities, having worked with others to achieve common aspirational goals.
Strong time management skills.
Keen eye for detail and strong organisational skills
Excellent communication skills with which you can express your insights articulately in different formats, as well as adapt based on your audience
