Scimita Group is an agile technology development and commercialisation business that deploys 'cutting edge science' to produce 'leading edge innovation'. Founded in 2017, Scimita is where research meets commercialisation, where academia meets creativity, a melting pot of bright minds turning ideas into reality/products.

With the advent of new projects we have the need to hire up to 5 Experimentalists /Researchers to join our growing team. We are looking to hire junior, mid-level and senior candidates to ensure successful operation of our business and execution of our current and new projects.

We are predominately interested in candidates with backgrounds in chemistry (analytical, industrial, inorganic, physical, or materials), chemical engineering, or materials science to contribute to the development of novel processes for sulfuric acid production, mineral processing and flowsheet development, microwave-based extraction, microplastic remediation, and carbon capture.

You will take a scientific or engineering-based approach in conceiving, testing, measuring, and assessing our inventions and innovations. You will answer complex research questions and design and complete experiments for the lifetime of a given project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draw upon advanced techniques and methods to carry out tasks requiring accuracy and adherence to prescribed methods of professional scientific design, computation, or analysis.

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative research including collecting, organising, interpreting, and analysing data.

  • Inform the design of experiments, including identifying necessary resources and outputs.

  • Conduct hands-on experiments in a structured manner while creating relevant documentation such as standard operating procedures and laboratory notes.

  • Present data or information from research and experiments to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Generate high quality written reports and summaries for external clients and publication, as well as other relevant documentation alongside the research performed.

  • Contribute to the general needs of our research projects, including:

    • Identifying project needs and generating deliverables.

    • Performing modelling of applicable processes, products, or services.

    • Developing innovative solutions to complex technological problems.

    • Contributing to product development activities.

  • Assign and review work of other technical staff assigned to contribute to a common project.

  • Work collaboratively in project teams with diverse experience using our Agile project delivery framework.

The successful candidate will be/have:

  • A research-based degree (Honours, Masters, or PhD) in science, engineering, or another relevant discipline; or have equivalent qualifications or research experience. Due to the nature of our current projects, a background in chemistry (analytical, industrial, inorganic, physical, or materials), chemical engineering, or materials science would be preferred.

  • Experience working in a scientific or engineering setting, with applied knowledge of best practice standards and protocols when it comes to conducting research and experiments.

  • Applied experience translating technology from the laboratory to pilot-scale and beyond (advantageous but not essential).

  • Experience working in industry as opposed to only in an academic setting (preferred).

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Keen eye for detail and strong organisational skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with which you can express your insights articulately in different formats, as well as adapt based on your audience.

  • For senior applicants, demonstrated leadership abilities, having worked with others to achieve common aspirational goals.

Applicants at all levels welcome! If this opportunity is of interest and you meet the criteria above, please APPLY or email us directly at careers@scimitaventures.com
